My mom is thinking of assisted living and is not sure if she can handle having a roommate, but it really brings down the cost. What do you think?

Sharing a room can significantly reduce costs as well as offer the benefits of additional companionship and safety. You can make a friend for life. If something happens, your roommate can be there to assist you; if you are not feeling well, your roommate can comfort you until medical staff arrives. If a personality conflict arises, administrators of these facilities deal with this all the time and will try to match your mom with someone else until they can find a better companion. Keep in mind that your may try out a shared room, and if it does not work out, she is free to switch to a private room. However, if your mom starts out in a private, you can be assured that she will never ask to switch to a shared room. So, it might be worth trying out initially.
